Veterinary Experts from Around the World Gather in New Orleans for AVMA Annual Convention Veterinary medicine is responsible for eradicating many diseases around the world, inventing new medical procedures used in both human and animal health and making life better for both people and animals. From July 19-22, thousands of experts in veterinary medicine will gather in New Orleans for the 145th annual American Veterinary Medical Association Convention.
The AVMA Annual Convention will offer nearly 1,000 hours of educational programming. In addition to the educational opportunities, more than 200 companies will be present in the exhibit hall to display their products and services. Finally, a full complement of social programs and networking opportunities will complete the convention experience.
Hot topics of discussion at this year’s convention include:- 55% of children suffer post traumatic stress disorder following a substantial dog bite. Blue Dog, a new international educational game designed to reduce the number of children bitten by dogs will make its US debut in New Orleans.
- Electromedicine, acupuncture, and chiropractic treatments for pain, depression, and behavior issues in companion animals are finding their way into the veterinary clinic.
- During the past three decades, three-quarters (75%) of newly emerging human infectious diseases have been zoonotic—animal diseases transmitted to humans. Veterinarians, Physicians and environmentalists are exploring the “One Medicine”.
- According to the CDC, 73,000 cases of E.coli infection and 61 deaths occur in the United States each year. New techniques designed to reduce the number of E.coli outbreaks are explained.
